I did a google search on Rabbit processor finding the definition shown by the link at Wikipedia, I am not sure if that's the hardware you are trying to use, but knowing it, will help us to help you according to the Wikepedia definition, it is bundle with a C like language that will help you to program it, then I searched for Rabbit Processor and IP address if your model has an ethernet port, you should be able to assign an IP address to it, the search result was good, the following article seems promising Roadmap to TCP/IP Sample Programs this latest article has lot of sample code, which seems to be the key to sorting out your problem. What is likely the best tool to create a program that will accept data from another computer at 10 Hz and display the data on the PC? Is it Visual Basic, Visual Basic 2005 express Edition (free), can it be done in VBA, C, or should I branch out completly and use something like Expect, TCL, or Perl? Get the PC working, then get the prorotype board working with confidence that the PC end works. I prefer the second as the problem space will be reduced. Or, develop a talker / sender pair of programs on the PC and get them working, then add in the prototype board. Write and test both ends (embedded code and PC code) and debug them together. I see two paths towards setting up an ethernet connection. (And I am not sure the board has a login port, although it does have a download port.) The RJ-45 is an ethernet port and Zworld does have instructions on how to set it up for TCP/IP and UDP. Telnet might work but then the PC would probably have to ask for each set of data thereby increasting the traffic rate to no advantage. FTP is for transferring files and the prototype board does not have any files.
